Roadway Design
Roadway Design (Rural, Low Impact, Urban, and Interchange Design)
Sungate provides comprehensive roadway design services consistent with NCDOT, AASHTO, and local jurisdiction standards. Our experience includes rural and urban roadway improvements, bridge approaches, low‑impact roadway solutions, and complex interchange projects. We apply context‑sensitive design principles to balance safety, mobility, environmental stewardship, and long‑term maintenance, while coordinating closely with NCDOT, MPOs/RPOs, and local agencies throughout project development.
Work Zone Traffic Control Design
Sungate prepares Work Zone Traffic Control (WZTC) plans in accordance with the NCDOT Roadway Design Manual and the MUTCD. Our plans address construction phasing, lane closures, detours, and access management to maintain safe and efficient traffic operations during construction. Emphasis is placed on work zone safety, clear driver guidance, and constructability.
Signing and Pavement Marking Design
Sungate develops detailed signing and pavement marking (S&PM) plans that enhance roadway safety, consistency, and driver expectancy. Our designs comply with MUTCD and NCDOT standards and are carefully coordinated with roadway geometry, traffic control devices, and phasing requirements to support clear and durable implementation.
Greenway, Sidewalk, and Multi-Use Trail Design
Sungate designs pedestrian and bicycle facilities that support NCDOT Complete Streets policies and local municipal transportation goals. We have extensive experience designing and administering Locally Administered Projects (LAP) for municipalities across the state. Our greenway, sidewalk, and multi‑use path designs emphasize safety, accessibility, and connectivity while meeting ADA requirements and integrating with existing and planned transportation networks.
Feasibility Studies
Sungate provides transportation feasibility studies to support planning‑level decision‑making and early project development. Our evaluations consider alignment alternatives, right‑of‑way impacts, environmental constraints, costs, and constructability to help clients and agencies identify practical, fundable solutions consistent with NCDOT planning and project development processes.
