NCDOT Projects
NCDOT Bridge/Culvert Replacement Projects
Since 1991, Sungate has successfully delivered more than 500 bridge/culvert replacement projects for NCDOT across every Division in North Carolina. Our experience spans rural stream crossings, major river structures, and bridges/culverts located in environmentally sensitive and highly developed corridors. We provide comprehensive engineering and roadway design services from project development through final construction plans, helping NCDOT navigate the technical, environmental, and regulatory challenges associated with bridge/culvert replacement projects.
Our bridge/culvert replacement services include Bridge/Culvert Survey Reports for proposed replacement and detour structures, roadway geometric design, hydraulic and scour analyses, drainage design, FEMA coordination, sediment and erosion control plans, environmental permitting, utility coordination, maintenance of traffic and detour planning, signing and pavement marking design, and complete construction plan development. By integrating these disciplines into a coordinated design approach, and partnering with key technical subconsultants, Sungate delivers safe, resilient, and cost-effective transportation solutions that improve mobility and connectivity throughout North Carolina.

R-3300B – US 17 Hamstead Bypass
Sungate provided hydraulic design for the 5.6-mile US 17 Hampstead Bypass project extending from south of NC 210 to north of SR 1563 (Sloop Point Loop Road) in Pender County. Services included drainage design for approximately 7 miles of roadway, preparation of eight Culvert Survey Reports (CSRs), NCFMP/FEMA coordination, Stormwater Management Plan development, environmental permit drawings and impact summaries, and stormwater control measure (SCM) design and analysis.
R-2707C, D, & E – US 74 Shelby Bypass
Sungate provided hydraulic design, sediment and erosion control design, and environmental permit drawings for three segments of the US 74 Shelby Bypass project in NCDOT Division 12. The project encompassed approximately 11.5 miles of new location interstate extending from east of NC 226 to west of SR 1001.
